Binary Options Claims in Malaysia: SC Investment Checker and Alert Lists

For a Malaysia-facing investment offer, verify the actual entity and activity with the Securities Commission Malaysia. A Telegram group, local bank destination or claimed certificate is not an authorisation record.

For a Malaysia-facing investment offer, verify the actual entity and activity with the Securities Commission Malaysia. A Telegram group, local bank destination or claimed certificate is not an authorisation record.

Use the correct official tools

SC’s Investment Checker is designed to verify whether an entity or individual is authorised to offer, promote or sell capital-market products and services in Malaysia. Its Investor Alert List provides a separate warning resource.

An alert-list search and an authorisation check answer different questions. A name not appearing in one warning search is not automatically licensed.

Search for the company, not just the brand

Find the company named in the agreement and the person or organisation promoting the offer. Search exact names and identifiers where available, then review status and activity details.

A group called ‘Binary Malaysia’ may not be the legal company collecting the money. Preserve both the marketing name and the payment recipient instead of assuming they represent the same entity.

A practical search log

Entry Record
Claimed company Name and registration identifier
Promoter Name, role and claimed authority
SC result Status, category and date checked
Alert search Exact matching name or domain
Payment request Recipient identity retained privately

Beware of impressive return arithmetic

An illustrative offer claiming that RM500 will become RM7,000 in a few hours promises a fourteen-fold ending value. Writing the claim as a percentage does not make it credible.

Ask what the product is, who owes the payoff and how the result is independently evidenced. A screen balance is not a receiving-bank credit, and a promoter’s selected winners do not establish the complete loss history.

Do not generalise beyond the evidence

SC warnings contain specific entities, domains and conduct descriptions. Quote the applicable scope accurately. Do not turn a warning about an unlicensed scheme into an unsupported statement about every product sharing one word in its name.

Equally, an overseas company certificate or foreign licence does not answer the Malaysian activity question. The relevant local permission must be established separately.

If you cannot verify the offer

Pause the payment and use SC’s genuine enquiry or complaint information. Keep messages, advertisements, identifiers and transaction evidence. Do not give a private agent passwords or one-time codes to ‘verify’ the account.

A legitimate investigation can identify an unresolved permission gap without guaranteeing a recovery. The purpose of the record is to make the claim assessable by the right organisation, not to produce a superficial safe-or-scam badge.

How to use the SC Investment Checker step by step

  1. Identify the agreement party. Copy the full legal name from the account terms, rather than searching only the logo displayed above the chart. If the terms identify a different company from the advertisement, record both.
  2. Open the official checker independently. Navigate to sc.com.my and its Investment Checker. Do not treat a screenshot sent by a salesperson as the live result.
  3. Search the exact name and registration number. The checker provides individual/entity options and additional filters. Clear old filters when repeating a search; a narrow category can hide a relevant record.
  4. Read the status and activity. A matching name is the beginning of the review. Compare the recorded activity with the service actually being offered and note whether the result is current or inactive.
  5. Verify the communication channel. Establish whether the person contacting you belongs to the genuine organisation. An authentic firm’s record cannot authenticate an unrelated chat group using its name.

This sequence is an evidence worksheet, not a legal determination that every service labelled binary options falls into one category. If the activity description does not clearly match the contract, ask the relevant official organisation for clarification before relying on the claim.

Potential clones: why matching names can mislead

The SC alert page specifically identifies some entries as potential clones and says its list is not exhaustive. Read the particular warning’s domain and remarks. Keep the genuine firm’s details separate from those of the suspected impersonator; do not describe the genuine firm as the operator of a fake site solely because its name was copied.

Illustrative example: an investment group supplies a real company’s name and a valid-looking number, but its website address and payment instructions differ from independently established company channels. The record proves that a company exists in the register. It does not prove that the group represents it. Ask the genuine company to confirm the specific domain, representative and offer through independently obtained contact information.

Evaluate the offer without relying on a screenshot

Claim presented What remains unresolved
“Our company is registered” Whether the relevant capital-market activity is authorised
“We are not on the alert list” Positive evidence of permission and identity
“A member withdrew yesterday” Whether the evidence is complete, authentic and representative
“Pay to release your profit” The contractual basis, recipient and independent authenticity of the request

For the earlier RM500-to-RM7,000 illustration, the advertised profit is RM6,500, or 1,300% of the starting amount. That calculation describes the claim; it provides no evidence that it can be achieved. Check whether losing outcomes, fees, conditions and repayment obligations are omitted from the presentation. A timer or limited-seat message supplies no missing authorisation evidence.

Questions readers ask

Does a Malaysian payment account prove SC authorisation?

No. A payment destination identifies a route for funds. Compare it with the agreement and verified company instructions, and resolve unexplained differences. Do not publish another person’s full bank details in a review.

What if the checker returns several similar names?

Use registration identifiers, entity category and activity details to narrow the results. Document which record matches and why. An unresolved match should remain unresolved rather than receiving a positive verification badge.

Can I rely on an old saved certificate?

Use the current official record and preserve the date checked. A historical certificate cannot by itself establish today’s status, the promoter’s relationship or permission for a different service.

What should I keep for a complaint?

Retain the original advertisement, contract, message timeline, exact domain, payment reference and relevant account records. Separate facts you can document from allegations you cannot yet substantiate. See our deposit and withdrawal research for organising payment evidence. No document pack guarantees recovery.
